Moroccan international and Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi could be facing up to 15 years in prison after French prosecutors called for him to stand trial on rape charges.

According to Le Parisien, the Nanterre prosecutor’s office on August 1, 2025, submitted a final indictment requesting that the 26-year-old be tried in criminal court over an alleged sexual assault at his home in February 2023.

The decision now rests with the investigating judge, who will determine whether to proceed with a trial.

The allegations stemmed from an incident on February 25, 2023, when a 24-year-old woman accused Hakimi of raping her at his residence in Boulogne-Billancourt, just outside Paris.

The two had reportedly been communicating via Instagram for over a month prior to their meeting.

In her statement to police, the woman claimed that what began as a casual meet-up quickly escalated.

She alleged that Hakimi forcibly kissed her and touched her inappropriately through her clothing, despite her objections, before sexually assaulting her.

She said she eventually pushed him away with her foot and fled, later messaging a friend to pick her up.

That friend confirmed to police that the woman appeared shaken and distressed.

The woman reported the incident to police the same day, and on March 3, 2023, Hakimi was formally charged with rape and placed under judicial supervision after being questioned in custody.

Hakimi has firmly denied the allegations from the beginning, claiming he is the target of a blackmail attempt.

His legal team has called the case “an attempted racketeering.”

In a January 2025 interview, Hakimi said, “When you’re successful, you become a target. They wanted to blackmail me, and we filed a complaint. The justice system has handled it well so far.”

Despite the legal controversy, PSG has continued to support the player, citing “personal reasons” for his training absences and expressing confidence in the judicial process.

As the case progresses, the final decision on whether Hakimi will face trial lies with the examining magistrate. If convicted, he could face a prison sentence of up to 15 years.
