Governor Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum has approved the creation of a new Ministry of Planning and Economic Development in Borno State.
He also approved the posting of newly sworn-in commissioners.
The approval was issued today in a letter signed by Secretary to the State Government, Bukar Tijjani, following the screening and confirmation of the nominees by the Borno State House of Assembly.
According to the statement, the creation of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development is a strategic move by the Zulum administration to “strengthen governance, accelerate post-conflict recovery and stimulate economic growth” as Borno enters the final phase of his tenure.
Some of the key functions of the new ministry will include strategic planning. This involves developing long-term development plans, policies, and economic blueprints for Borno State.
Another function key function is economic recovery and growth. This is task with designing programs to stimulate investment, revive local economies, and create jobs in post-conflict communities.
Other functions are data and statistics, project monitoring and evaluation, donor and development partners coordination and budget planning and support.
These and other tasks are delegeted to Hon. Maina Yaumi as he was named the pioneer Commissioner of the new ministry and will lead efforts to coordinate Borno’s transition from humanitarian relief to sustainable economic development.
All commissioners were directed to resume duties with immediate effect. Other portfolios are:

Hon. Ibrahim Hala Hassan Trade, Investment and Tourism
Hon. Engr. Adam Bukar Bababe Works and Housing
Gov. Zulum urged all appointees to recommit to public service and rededicate their efforts to the successful implementation of government policies.
He also charged them to work closely with Permanent Secretaries, directors, and staff to deliver effective services and ensure citizens enjoy greater dividends of democracy.
The establishment of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development is expected to create a shift toward structured, data-driven recovery planning as Borno consolidates security gains and focuses on rebuilding livelihoods.
