Gunmen on Monday night attacked the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS, Kuru near Jos, Plateau State, killing three persons including a policeman.
The attack occured at about 11:40 p.m on Monday when the assailants allegedly attempted to breach the premises of the Nigeria’s foremost policy and leadership training institute.
Sources said security personnel on duty engaged the attackers in a confrontation, leading to the death of three operatives during the incident.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, while security agencies have yet to release an official statement on the development.
The incident has raised concerns over security around strategic national institutions, with residents and stakeholders calling for heightened security measures to prevent future attacks.
Efforts to reach the spokesperson for Plateau Police Command, Alfred Alabo, for official confirmation of the incident were unsuccessful.
In a statement released on Tuesday June 16, 2026 and signed by the Head of Public Affairs Department, Osime Samuel, NIPSS confirmed that a security incident occurred in the vicinity of the institute in the early hours of today.
