The United Kingdom Government has announced the appointment of Ms Vicky Seymour as its new Deputy High Commissioner in Abuja, marking a key diplomatic appointment aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the UK and Nigeria.
A statement by the UK government on Thursday noted that Seymour has resumed her role in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, where she will support and strengthen the UK’s partnership with Nigeria, which spans economic growth, security, migration, development, international collaboration and the links between our people.
Seymour brings more than two decades of experience across diplomacy, international development and government.
Seymour succeeds Gill Lever OBE, who diplomatic posting in Nigeria ended in June 2026.
The appointment was announced by the British High Commission in Abuja on Thursday.
Prior to taking up her new role, Seymour served as Head of the East Africa Department at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, (FCDO) a position she held since 2023.
Before this, she led the FCDO’s Trade Diplomacy Department and served as Development Director in Mozambique.
Her career has included senior leadership roles across Africa, including Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, and in Afghanistan, as well as positions focused on climate, security and economic development.
Speaking on her appointment, Seymour said, “I am delighted to be taking up the role of Deputy High Commissioner in Abuja. I look forward to getting to know this extraordinary country, meeting people from across Nigeria’s diverse communities, and building on the strong partnership that already exists between our two countries.
“Together, I hope we can continue creating opportunities for greater collaboration and links between our people in the years ahead.”
Her appointment forms part of the UK Government’s diplomatic postings and is expected to reinforce cooperation between both countries across areas including trade, security, governance, education and investment.
