Security operatives in Enugu State have arrested two suspected members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN), the armed wing of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), in connection with coordinated terrorist attacks across the state.
The suspects—51-year-old Ferdinand Udegbe, also known as “Gentle,” and 49-year-old Igbokwe Francis, alias “Onye Ali”—were apprehended during a dawn raid on Saturday, July 5, following credible intelligence, according to counterinsurgency expert Zagazola Makama.
Both men are reportedly natives of Mgbowo communities in Awgu Local Government Area and are believed to be key operatives in the network’s subversive operations.
Security sources described them as “hardened operatives” allegedly involved in assaults targeting critical infrastructure and security personnel in the region.
The suspects are currently being interrogated at a secure military facility, popularly known as Octopus Base, as authorities intensify efforts to apprehend other members of the group.
A senior source at the Enugu State Police Command confirmed the arrests and urged residents to remain alert and supportive of ongoing security efforts.
“We are committed to restoring law and order in the state. The public has a crucial role to play in defeating the threats posed by criminal elements,” the official said.
Investigations are ongoing as law enforcement agencies continue to clamp down on violent separatist activities in the South-East.
