Two members of the National Assembly – Senators Isa Misau and Ubali Shittu-are leading the presidential campaign teams of the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, to the Northeast and Northwest.
Already, the teams have arrived the two geo-political zones ahead of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s presidential aspirant’s planned visit to the 13 states that make up the two zones.
Saraki in a statement yesterday by his Media Adviser, Yusuph Olaniyonu, said the advance campaign teams of the Senate president have arrived in the two zones to meet with party stakeholders of PDP.
The advance teams, the statement added, would be engaged in multiple meetings across the seven North-western states, and the six North-eastern states.
Other members of the Northeast delegation include Special Assistant on Political Affairs to the Senate President, Yakubu Mohammed; Alhaji Akilu Ndabawa (Kano); Hajiya Fati Kamba, a woman elder in Kebbi State; and Alhaji Sheriff Hashiru, a northern youth leader from Kano State.
Others on the North-east delegation are Hon. Binta Bello, Alhaji Abubakar Jada, Mohammed Kachalla and Mr. Seth Crowther.
Saraki, according to the statement, will soon lead a team consisting of Senators, members of the House of Representatives, former governors and top politicians on tour of the two zones as part of his efforts to secure the nod of PDP delegates in the October 6, 2018, national convention.
The Senate president who last Thursday declared his intention to seek the office of the president on the PDP platform had within a week met and consulted with nine state governors, including Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State; Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom; Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta; Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State; Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State; Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State; and Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State.
He had also met in the last one month with elder statesmen, including three former Presidents, Olusegun Obasanjo, Goodluck Jonathan, Ibrahim Babangida, among others.
The consultations are in line with Saraki’s commitment to ensure that all party stakeholders are carried along in his campaign ahead of the October PDP presidential primary.
THISDAY gathered that the Senate president left Abuja for Ilorin yesterday afternoon to continue with the consultations with his kinsman on his ambition.
He is expected to be in both the Northeast and North-west zones to consult with PDP stakeholders before the end of the week.
