The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has rejected claims that the president promised Nigerians a 24-hour electricity supply during the 2023 election campaign.

Onanuga said the statement has been repeatedly misrepresented, particularly by supporters of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi.

According to him, Tinubu never guaranteed uninterrupted power supply for every Nigerian but instead promised to ensure improved electricity access and end the problem of estimated billing.

Onanuga explained that during the campaign in Lagos, Tinubu stated that “by all means necessary, you will have electricity, and you will not pay for estimated bills anymore.”

He added that the president also pledged that his performance would be judged by Nigerians, saying he should not be re-elected if he failed to deliver on his promises unless he provided valid reasons.

Onanuga maintained that claims suggesting Tinubu promised 24-hour electricity were misleading and a distortion of the actual message delivered during the campaign.
