Police in Kaduna State have detained a woman, Hauwa’u Adamu, and her husband, Sharhabil, following the death of her son, Sadiq, who reportedly died after being allegedly beaten over a disputed N5,000 POS withdrawal.

The incident, which occurred in Kurmin-Mashi area of Kaduna, has generated outrage among residents and raised concerns about child abuse and excessive punishment.

Sadiq aged between 12 and 14, was sent by his mother to withdraw N5,000 from POS operator. However, it was later alleged that he made two separate withdrawals but handed only N5,000 upon returning home.

Suspecting wrongdoing, Sharhabil reportedly confronted the POS operator, who allegedly confirmed that the boy had withdrawn money twice.

Following the discovery, Sadiq was allegedly subjected to severe punishment by his mother and stepfather. Neighbors claimed they heard the boy crying late into Monday night and made efforts to intervene, including seeking the assistance of a local cleric, but the alleged punishment reportedly continued.

The boy was found dead on Tuesday morning. Kurmin-Mashi Police Division has reportedly taken the child’s body to hospital for further examination to determine the exact cause of death, while launching full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
