The federal government has assured NIGERIANS of their wholesome readiness to finish the 2nd NIGER BRIDGE in 2022.
This statement was made by the Honourable minister of works and housing Babatunde Fashola over the weekend at a forum organized by News AGENCY of NIGERIA to mark PRESIDENT BUHARI six years anniversary in Abuja.
Recall that the bridge has posed a worry to NIGERIANS since the PDP Administration under Fomer PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan could not build the bridge.
9News Nigeria reports that, the bridge when completed will serve as a major link between the south East zone and the south south and probably reduce the pressure on the present River Niger bridge which has been confirmed weak and due for reinforcement.
However, Fashola hinted the readiness of Government to complete the bridge before the end of next year 2022.
At an on-the-spot inspection of the bridge by 9News Nigeria investigative team led by Princely Onyenwe, it was Confirmed that work is seriously going on towards the finishing stage while materials are were seen on cite.
This was done after the minister spoke at the forum while we met the engineers on the project sight on Monday afternoon who then Confirmed the measurement of the bridge as 1.6km long. The told us that the pandemic and moreover the rain was a set back to it’s completion but promised to speed up work to heat the target time of FG.
The bridge when completed will serve a needed purpose to ease trafic on the present bridge to and from Delta state, Anambra state.
Fashola told the press that the sub structure which entailed building cement structures under water involve a lot of funds.
“The bridge will be completed between the second quarter and third quarter of 2022” Honourable minister Fashola hinted.
It is worthy of note that the construction of the 2nd NIGER BRIDGE was flagged off on September 1st in the year 2018.
