The management of National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) will today (Wednesday January 13, 2021) has put all machinery in motion to conduct Covid-19 test for all its staff members at the Hajj House, Central Business District Abuja, as part of precautionary measures to check the spread of the deadly pandemic among the workforce in line with Federal Government’s directives.
According to a very reliable source who craved anonymity, the test is to make sure that every staff of the commission is made to undergo the compulsory Covid-19 test and also to maintain a healthy workforce.
“To put the record straight, no staff of the commission has tested positive for Covid-19. This is just part of the precautionary measures the commission is taking because of the second wave of the pandemic which is ravaging the world. Our workers are our pride and we don’t joke with them,” the source told 9News Nigeria correspondent in Abuja on Tuesday.
The world has been hit by the second wave of Covid-19 which the experts said is deadlier. The second wave started late last year 2020 and has claimed more lives globally and also in Nigeria hitting the academics and the showbiz of late and also the ordinary people.
The pandemic figure in Nigeria has passed the 100,000 mark with daily infections hitting more than 1,000 daily in the last two weeks.
Prominent Nigerians who have succumbed to the second wave among others include Professor Oyewusi Ibidapo-Obe, a former Vice Chancellor, University of Lagos, Professor Femi Odekunle, a professor of criminologist and member of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC) , Nollywood star actress, Mrs Folake Aremu, popularly referred to as Orisabunmi.
The Federal Government through the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 headed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, has continued to advise Nigeria to observe the Covid-19 protocols which include washing of hands with soaps, using of hand sanitizers and wearing of nose masks in public.
