The Peoples Democratic Party Chairman in Edo State has allegedly diverted monies assigned to him to pay party delegates, using the money to celebrate his One-year-anniversary, 9News Nigeria has learnt.
According to a report seen by 9News Nigerian correspondent, the Chairman of the PDP in Edo State is causing rumbling within the party as a result of his shady handling of funds earmarked for delegates and party leaders in the just concluded Zonal Congress in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital where Chief Dan Orbih emerged as the leader of the party in the South-South and Deputy National Chairman.
According to report by a source, the reason for shortchanging and outrightly withholding monies due to the Delegates and Leaders is because he diverted some to use in celebrating his first year anniversary in office as Chairman of the party in Edo State.
This revelation has not gone down well with some leaders of the party who feel betrayed and disrespected by this act of financial impropriety. Some are unhappy that after spending so much personal resources to be in attendance for the Congress monies earmarked benevolently by the Governor to help defray some of their expenses is so poorly handled.
A leader who spoke anonymously stated that”the issue is not so much the money but the act so brazenly done and with subterfuge. Rather than acting so clandestinely the Chairman should have been more tactful by soliciting donations from these very delegates and leaders. But he choose to cut corners by pilfering.Advertisement
This is a financial crime and should be investigated by the relevant arm within the State Working Committee, SWC.
The source further said It is even a shame and a testament to his very poor leadership abilities and style that the Chairman of a party with a sitting Governor, two Senators and five House of Representatives Members, and countless other dignitaries, could not muster funds through these people but debased the office he holds in such a manner he has brought it to redicule. Men of very high stature have held that office and did not bring it to the disrepute this political midget and Liliputian has done. It is a very sad moment for the PDP in Edo State”. He concluded.
Attempts to reach Dr. Tony Aziegbemi on these weighty allegations were unsuccessful as at press release.
The PDP in Edo State needs to put its house in order by bringing accountability and financial probity at all levels.
