In the bid to regulate land administration and management in Imo state, His Excellency Governor Hope Uzodimma assented to and signed into law the Imo State Lands Administration and Geographic Information Service (Establishment) Law 2021.
That has brought a clear SENSE OF LAND ADMINISTRATION AND MANAGEMENT IN IMO STATE and conversation on the land value chain.
However, On the 18th day of May 2021, His Excellency Governor Hope Uzodimma assented to and signed into law the Imo State Lands Administration and Geographic Information Service (Establishment) Law 2021.
Section 3(1) of the law established the Imo State Geographic Information Service Agency with the responsibility for all land administration matters and enforcement in the state including the creation of a lands registry wherein all land titles and instruments in the state shall be registered.
On the 19th day of July 2021, the new Director-General of IGIS, Mr Chukwunyere Amaechi held a strategic CONVERSATION session with professionals in the Land Value Chain.
In attendance were a cross-section of professionals from:
- Nigeria Institute of Town Planners
2. Institute of Estate Surveyors and Valuers
3. Association of Private Practicing Surveyors. etc.
The theme of the CONVERSATION centred on seeking the support of Professionals in the Land Value Chain for a strategic framework and a collective vision on the effective management of Land Resources in Imo State.
Contributions centred on:-
▪Professionalizing the land processes
▪Identifying the inconsistencies in land administration
▪A Masterplan for Okigwe and Orlu as emerging cities
▪Capacity building and enhancing level of skills-set and competence of land administrators
▪Need for Localization / Domestication of Regional and Urban Planning laws
▪Evaluating quality of advice from Professional Bodies
▪Ease with dealing with land information and enquiries.
▪Enhancing land documents as bankable instruments/integrity and value of title deeds
▪Eliminating forged documents/investigating issues of building on government lands without title deeds.
▪Introduction of Biometrics and deployment of technology in land administration
▪Introduction of Customer Service Center, with the following
i. Specialist case officers
ii. Toll-free numbers
iii. Land Fraud Report Lines
