Violence erupted in Igwuruta, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, as thugs went on a rampage, shooting at innocent voters who had come out to cast their ballots in the ongoing local government elections.
According to Eyewitnesses, the attackers, armed with guns, opened fire on residents at polling stations, causing chaos and forcing many to flee for safety.
9News report that several people are feared injured, though the full extent of casualties is still unclear.
Meanwhile, local authorities and security agencies have yet to issue an official statement on the incident, with residents calling for immediate intervention to restore peace and ensure the safety of those participating in the election.
