Legendary musician Sir Elton John has delivered a shocking update regarding his health, revealing that he has completely lost his eyesight. The 77-year-old singer made this announcement during the red carpet launch of his new musical, The Devil Wears Prada, in London on December 1, 2024. This news has sent ripples through the music and entertainment community, as fans and fellow artists express their concern and support for the iconic performer.
At the gala event, which served as a fundraiser for the Elton John AIDS Foundation, John addressed the audience, sharing the difficulties he has faced due to his deteriorating vision. “I haven’t been able to come to many of the previews because, as you know, I have lost my eyesight,” he stated. Despite this significant challenge, he expressed his love for the musical’s score, saying, “It’s hard for me to see it, but I love to hear it, and, boy, it sounded good tonight.”
This announcement follows a previous update from John in September, where he disclosed that an eye infection had severely impacted his vision, leaving him with only limited sight in one eye. He described the healing process as “extremely slow” and indicated that it would take time before he could regain sight in the affected eye. In his Instagram post, he thanked his medical team and family for their support during this challenging period, stating, “I have been quietly spending the summer recuperating at home and am feeling positive about the progress I have made in my healing and recovery so far.”
