In every generation, there are public figures whose influence transcends political office and whose contributions continue to shape governance long after they have left executive positions.

In Imo State, Chief Longers Anyanwu belongs to that class of leaders.

Widely known as the Ebubedike of Obowo, Chief Anyanwu has spent decades in public service, earning recognition as an administrator, politician, community leader and advocate for sustainable development.

His career indicates a consistent commitment to agriculture, economic growth, infrastructure, tourism and grassroots empowerment, making him one of the enduring voices in Imo’s political and developmental landscape.

His public service résumé speaks volumes.

When Chibok happened, it was President Jonathan they Blamed — Makinde
Finally, the Kidnapped Oyo Schoolchildren, Teachers Regain Freedom
Flood Submerges Uyo, Destroys Thousands of Homes and Businesses
APC Retains Shettima as Tinubu’s Running Mate Despite Christians Rejection Of Muslim-Muslim Ticket

From previously serving as Commissioner for Agriculture in Imo State to leading the state’s Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P) and serving on the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Chief Anyanwu has accumulated extensive experience across different levels of governance.

These positions have provided him with a broad understanding of public administration and the challenges of development in Nigeria.

Perhaps one of his most remarkable contributions came during his tenure as Commissioner for Agriculture between 2007 and 2011.

At a time when agriculture required renewed attention, the ministry pursued reforms aimed at increasing productivity, supporting local farmers, strengthening extension services and promoting value addition across the agricultural value chain.

Those initiatives contributed to restoring confidence in the sector and laid foundations that have continued to benefit agricultural development in the state.

Beyond agriculture, Chief Anyanwu has consistently championed policies that promote infrastructure and economic transformation.

He has remained an outspoken supporter of initiatives capable of improving the quality of life for ordinary citizens, particularly investments in electricity, transportation and security.

His commendation of Governor Hope Uzodimma over the establishment of the Orashi Electricity Company reflected his belief that stable electricity is fundamental to industrialisation, business expansion and job creation.

To him, sustainable development is impossible without reliable infrastructure capable of driving economic activities and attracting investment.

Meanwhile, his contributions extend beyond government policies.

Chief Anyanwu has continued to distinguish himself as a bridge-builder and grassroots mobiliser, advocating dialogue, political inclusiveness and peaceful coexistence among communities.

His ability to engage across political divides has earned him respect from supporters and associates who see him as a leader committed more to consensus than confrontation.

His influence remains particularly visible across Obowo Local Government Area and the wider Okigwe Senatorial District, where he continues to lend his voice to initiatives that promote unity, community participation and social development.

Chief Anyanwu has also demonstrated a keen interest in unlocking Imo State’s tourism potential.

His advocacy for the development of the Abadaba Wonder Lake underscores his conviction that tourism can become a viable driver of economic diversification, employment generation and local investment.

For him, the state’s natural attractions should be transformed into productive assets capable of creating wealth for surrounding communities.

Throughout his political journey, one philosophy has remained consistent: governance must deliver practical benefits to the people.

Whether discussing agriculture, infrastructure, youth empowerment, security or economic reforms, he has repeatedly emphasised the need for visionary leadership, policy continuity and citizen participation in nation-building.

That enduring record of service appears to have informed Governor Hope Uzodimma’s decision to once again entrust Chief Anyanwu with the responsibility of serving as a commissioner in Imo State, following his appointment announced yesterday.

The appointment is widely seen as a demonstration of the governor’s confidence in experienced hands and his commitment to assembling a team with proven competence and a deep understanding of the state’s development priorities.

Having distinguished himself in various public service roles over the years, Chief Anyanwu returns to office with the experience, institutional knowledge and leadership credentials needed to contribute meaningfully to the administration’s objectives.

His return to the State Executive Council also reflects Governor Uzodimma’s vision of leveraging experience, institutional memory and tested leadership in advancing the administration’s developmental agenda.

As the state continues to chart new pathways for economic growth and social progress, Chief Longers Anyanwu remains one of the experienced voices whose decades of public service, administrative expertise and advocacy for development continue to resonate.

His journey is not merely a chronicle of political appointments, but a clear reflection of a lifelong dedication to leadership, community development and the pursuit of a more prosperous Imo State.
