Troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE (OPEP) have foiled an alleged arms movement in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State, recovering two AK-47 rifles and other military-related items from a vehicle.
The operation was carried out on Saturday, August 29, 2026, when troops conducting a stop-and-search operation in Zak Village intercepted a Volkswagen Golf car.
According to the Nigerian Army, troops became suspicious after discovering a concealed compartment inside the vehicle’s dashboard.
The driver reportedly abandoned the vehicle and attempted to flee but was pursued and apprehended by the troops.
The Army said the suspect, while being restrained, attempted to disarm one of the soldiers, resulting to the troops neutralizing him.
A search of the concealed compartment subsequently led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, one magazine, two wooden rifle butts, nine magazine pouches, two camel bags, six jungle hats, one mobile phone and one ATM card.
The recovery is believed to have disrupted an illicit arms movement and prevented the weapons from potentially reaching criminal elements.
The Nigerian Army emphasized its commitment to maintaining security and protecting communities across Plateau State and other parts of the country.
