
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has instructed ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) and contractors to speed up work on ongoing transport projects so they can be completed and commissioned before the end of 2026.
The governor issued the order on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at a detailed briefing on the status of the state’s transport infrastructure and equipment projects, presented by the MDAs and contractors handling them.Eno said the projects were conceived to improve transport services, strengthen connectivity and give residents efficient, affordable mobility. He voiced concern over delays and warned that all agencies and contractors must step up their efforts to meet agreed deadlines and hand the projects over for public use.
Oron Maritime Project Nearing Completion On the Oron Maritime Infrastructure and Ferry Project, the governor noted its capacity to stimulate economic activity, promote tourism, enhance maritime security and improve movement along the state’s waterways. He urged the agencies and contractors to do whatever is necessary to finish on schedule, commission the facility properly and ensure operations begin smoothly.The project is said to be 85 per cent complete.
It includes a terminal building, passenger jetty, cargo jetty, Joint Task Force (JTF) jetty, floating bar, warehouses, dry storage, fish processing and drying sections, solar-powered cold rooms for fishmongers, and a recreational area. Once finished, the facilities are expected to ease passenger and cargo movement, improve fish preservation and processing, boost maritime security and support tourism.
Ferries and CNG Buses Also Reviewed The briefing also covered the status of two ferries ordered by the state government, CNG buses and their terminal infrastructure, as well as other transport initiatives.Eno charged the MDAs and contractors to maintain the pace of work so the projects deliver their intended benefits to Akwa Ibom residents. He also stressed the need for close coordination, regular monitoring and quick resolution of implementation problems in order to hit the year-end target.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to upgrading transport infrastructure and widening mobility options through timely delivery of ongoing projects.Also at the briefing were Deputy Governor Senator Akon Eyakenyi; Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah; Executive Assistant/Chief Delivery Advisor, Mr Aniefiok Johnson; Commissioner for Transport, Dr Anthony Luke; members of the State Executive Council; and other government officials.
