Lafia — Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has vowed that the disruption of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign rally at the Lafia Square will not be treated with levity.
Governor Sule gave the assurance on Thursday while presiding over an expanded meeting of the State Security Council at the Government House, Lafia, convened to review the incidents that occurred during the rally held in Wednesday, November 4, 2026.
The rally held at the Lafia Square was attended by the Vice President Kashim Shettima and other top leaders.
Addressing the meeting, the Governor said the embarrassment arising from the disruption extended beyond the state and the Presidential Campaign Council.
“The embarrassment was not the state or the Presidential Campaign Council alone. It was an embarrassment to the Vice President on behalf of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. That is the reason why we cannot take it lightly”, he said.
Governor Sule maintained that the arrest of the only low-level suspects would not be accepted as sufficient response to the incident.
“We cannot, at the end of the day, after having such embarrassment, just go and arrest five or six Almajiris and say that is the end of it. It will not work. The people responsible for this must be called to order”, he stated.
He directed that a thorough investigation be carried out to unravel the remote and immediate causes of the violence and ensure that the perpetrators and their sponsors are brought to book.
The State Government has already directed the Department of State Services (DSS) to immediately commence a full investigation into the incident.
Meanwhile, the Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested seven suspects in connection with the incident.
