  • Not less than 14 soldiers were on Saturday, June 15, court-martialed by the Nigerian Army
  • The accused soldiers were said to be guilty of kidnapping, murder, attempted murder and other crimes
  • Their case has been adjourned by the court martial panel members led by Brigadier General Bassey Etuk to Monday, June 24
Three officers and eleven soldiers of the 6 Division, Nigerian Army in Port Harcourt, Rivers state, were on Saturday, June 15, court-martialed for kidnapping, murder and attempted murder.
Major General Jamil Sarham, the general officer commanding of the division, concerning the development said that that the Nigerian Army would not tolerate any sort of criminality, The Nation reports.

Brigadier General Bassey Etuk, the president of the court martial, adjourned the hearing till Monday, June 24.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that some soldiers said to be fighting Boko Haram insurgents in the north east might face disciplinary action following complaints over deduction from their allowances.

These soldiers who were serving in parts of Adamawa north and Borno south alleged that N9,000 was removed from their January allowances.

They also alleged that after lodging complaints, the Army Headquarters sent a team on fact-finding mission. The team interviewed over 12 soldiers from the 143 Battalion in Madagali.

The money meant for the interviewed soldiers were said to have been refunded but later retrieved, again upsetting the soldiers, some of whom have spent over five years in the battle front and were not allowed to visit their families.
