Popular Nigerian singer Adekunle Gold has filed for divorce from his wife and fellow music star, Simi, at the High Court of Lagos State, according to a petition circulating online.
The petition, dated February 28, 2026, was filed under the Family Court – Matrimonial Causes Jurisdiction, seeking the dissolution of their marriage on the grounds that it has “irretrievably broken down.”
In the court documents, Adekunle Kosoko, popularly known as Adekunle Gold, alleged that he had been continuously controlled “emotionally, financially, socially, and professionally” by his wife. He further claimed that the relationship had become “toxic and unbearable,” citing a lack of mutual respect and peace.
The petitioner also accused the respondent of undermining his authority in the home and described the marriage as one marked by constant control and manipulation.
As part of the reliefs sought, the singer requested for dissolution of the marriage, equitable division of assets acquired during the union, joint custody of their child, subject to agreement and other relief the court deems appropriate.
The document bears an official court stamp marked “Filed” and “Approved” on February 28, 2026, with a certified true copy endorsement.
Neither Adekunle Gold nor Simi has publicly commented on the development as of press time. The couple, who married in a private ceremony in 2019, have long been regarded as one of Nigeria’s most admired celebrity unions.
If confirmed, the filing marks a significant turn in the relationship between the award-winning artistes, whose collaborations and public displays of affection have often drawn admiration from fans.
