Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has shared the story behind his globally recognized stage name.
In conversation with Tennis legend Roger Federer, the Grammy winner explained that his love for comics books and super heroes as a child inspired the name.

He recalled creating and drawing his own superhero characters, one of which was “Burna Boy”, a fiery figure that later became his identity in music.
Burna Boy noted that the name perfectly captured the superhero persona he once dreamed of embodying.
In the same discussions, the singer also credited Afrobeats pioneer Fela Kuti for shaping his artistry., revealing that his grandfather introduced him to Fela’s timeless records, which played major role in defining his sound and musical direction.
