The Akwa Ibom State Government has dissolved all existing executive, parliamentary and judicial office holders of the National Association of Akwa Ibom State Students (NAAKISS) Worldwide.
The government also constituted a seven-member Electoral Committee to conduct fresh elections for the association.
The decision was announced by the Ministry of Education following the expiration of the tenure of the previous NAAKISS leadership.
The ministry said the interim national government and Parliament of NAAKISS Worldwide failed to organise fresh elections after the expiration of the executives’ tenure.
In a statement dated August 18, 2026, the ministry said the action was taken in line with the NAAKISS Worldwide Constitution 1996, as amended in 2022.
The Electoral Committee will be chaired by Uko-Obong Eliok Friday of the University of Uyo Chapter.
Other members are Abasireke Sunday Ekanem of Abia State University, Miriam Imoh Solomon of the University of Maiduguri and Esuene John Akpan of the University of Port Harcourt.
Kingsley Friday James of Akwa Ibom State University and Abigail Bassey Nyah of Anchor University, Lagos, are also members.
Esse Asukwo Umoh of Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic will serve as the committee’s secretary.
The Ministry of Education said the committee was established to restore an elected and constitutionally recognised leadership structure in NAAKISS Worldwide.
All dissolved officials, whether elected, interim or appointed, were directed to hand over NAAKISS properties and official documents in their possession.
The items are to be handed over to the Desk Officer, Student Affairs, Mrs Kokomma Bassey Akpan, at the Ministry of Education in Uyo.
The ministry said the directive would ensure a smooth transition and allow the Electoral Committee to begin its work without administrative obstacles.
The Commissioner for Education congratulated the committee members and urged them to carry out their duties within the stipulated timeframe.
He also charged them to uphold integrity and ensure that the electoral process is credible.
The development is expected to pave the way for fresh elections and the emergence of new national officers for NAAKISS Worldwide.
The association represents Akwa Ibom students across tertiary institutions within and outside the state.
The new Electoral Committee is expected to commence the process leading to the election of the association’s national leadership in accordance with its amended constitution.
