Actress Iyabo Ojo has addressed the recent controversy surrounding her involvement in the investigation into the death of late musician Mohbad.
Ojo, in a lengthy post on Instagram, clarified that her earlier comments were misinterpreted and emphasised that she never accused anyone specifically of being responsible for Mohbad’s death.
She said she was advocating for a thorough investigation and justice.
Iyabo Ojo detailed her efforts to push for an investigation, including writing letters to authorities such as the Governor, Attorney General, and Commissioner of Police, and meeting with officials to discuss the need for a comprehensive probe.
According to her, she has faced severe backlash, including threats to her life and public vilification. Before her daughter’s wedding, Iyabo Ojo claimed to have received a threatening letter warning her of harm, and she has been subjected to public violence incitement and threats.
She attributes the backlash partly to her political opinions during the last elections, which she believes have earned her many enemies.
Nonetheless, Ojo said she remains steadfast in her advocacy for social justice and trusts that she will overcome the challenges she faces.Iyabo Ojo expressed gratitude to those who have supported her and affirmed her readiness to cooperate further with the police investigation.
She wrote: “It is no longer news that I was recently invited by the Nigeria Police Force, National Cybercrime Centre, Abuja, over petitions bordering on cyberbullying and other allegations concerning a live video I recorded a few years ago. In that video, I requested certain individuals to make themselves available for investigation into the sudden death of Mohbad in order to prove their innocence or otherwise.
“Subsequently, through my non-governmental organization, Pinkies Foundation, we wrote letters to the Governor, Attorney General of the State, Commissioner of Police, Assistant Inspector General of Police and several others. In these letters, we requested an independent and comprehensive investigation, as well as a coroner’s inquest, into the death of the deceased.
“All of these steps clearly point to the fact that I never affirmed that Mohbad’s death was caused by any specific individual. Otherwise, I would not have taken the legal and investigative actions I did.”
