A Nigerian and Professor of Public Administration, specialising in Public Sector Management and Governance, Prof. Ukertor Gabriel Moti of the Department of Public Administration, University of Abuja has been appointed member of the Accreditation Committee (AC) of the International Commission of Public Administration Education and Training (ICAPA), an agency of the International Association of Schools and Institutes of Administration (IASIA) which provides quality assurance services for education and training programs in Public Administration using the self-evaluation and site-visit Standards of Excellence for Public Administration Education and Training jointly developed by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN-DESA) and IASIA. Professor is among 21 international experts appointed into the Committee.
The role of the Accreditation Committee among other things include, adopting the accreditation criteria, constituting site-visit teams, deciding on accreditation of Schools, Departments and Institutes offering Public Administration programs especially in Europe, Asia, USA, the Middle East etc, and serve as the main pool of site reviewers on accreditation as well as submit annual plan and reports.
The letter of appointment was conveyed in a letter dated January 21, 2021 and jointly signed by Dr. Najat Zarrouk, Chairperson of the ICAPA, and Dr. Steve Troupin, ICAPA Secretariat. The ICAPA headquarters is based in Brussels, Belgium.
Professor Moti was only recently appointed as Director, Centre for Corruption Studies (CCS) of the University of Abuja by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Abdulrasheed Na’ Allah. The Centre is responsible for research in corruption issues, runs Workshops and Conferences, and grants certificates in corruption studies and governance and serves as a data bank for corruption issues for researchers and policy makers.
As corruption is widely believed to be the bane of our development as a nation, the centre (CCS) will no doubt play a pivotal role in the fight against this hydra headed social problem in the country.
With the appointment of Prof Moti as Director of the CCS, University of Abuja, it is believed by some academics and policy experts and captains of the industry that the challenges of Anti-corruption bodies in Nigeria not being equiped with requisite skills and technical know-how will be jointly tackled through cutting- edge researches and programs of the Centre. It will also provide in the near future an opportunity to assist evaluate the Anti-Corruption program of the Buhari Administration and proffer evidence- based solutions.
Professor Moti has been an active participant at various international conferences and an active member of the Kenya based continental Public Administration forum, African Association for Public Administration and Management (AAPAM) where he serves as the Chief Editor of the African Journal of Public Administration and Management (AJPAM), a continental journal of the association.
