The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) @OfficialPDPNig has successfully conducted Ward and LGA Congresses in line with constitutional provisions of the party and other relevant authorities to maximize the voting strength of the delegates and that of the electorates from the constituency for election purposes.
The event which was held at Nora Suites Ihiala as directed by the PDP National Working Committee was attended by Anambra State Chairman of the party Hon Sir Ndubisi Nwobu, a prominent PDP gubernatorial aspirant and former member House of Rep Hon Chuma Nzeribe @ChumaNzeribe, Chief Emma Ebene, Hon Vincent Atuigwe, Sir Fred Udensi, Chief JJ Malizu, Sir Chris Chikwelu Jnr, amongst other prominent stakeholders of the constituency and esteemed party members.
Recall that Ihiala LGA had previously elected ward officers and 18 members of the LGA Executive in 2017, but the excercise was declared null and void considering that it wasn’t mornitored by the relevant electoral authority INEC.
INEC was on ground on Saturday and Monday 18th May, 2021 to officially monitor the congresses conducted by PDP in Ihiala LGA and they were overwhelmed by the conduct, enthusiasm and commitment of members, stakeholders and leaders of the party to address issues surrounding the legality of party structure.
In his opening address, the state chairman of the party Hon Sir Ndubisi Nwobu (Obuka Awka) expressed satisfaction with the massive turnout of members, introduced the members of the electoral committee and appeal panel. He also enjoined the delegates to be of good conduct to ensure a free, fair and credible congress.
Chairman of the Congress Committee Dr Ndukwe Adindu took over and mandated a member of his team to conduct the election from the position of Ex-Officio Members to that of LGA Chairman. Aspirants were voted and returned elected as substantive officers of the LGA in a hitch free election.
The successful conclusion of congresses in Ihiala has indeed repositioned the Anambra State chapter of PDP for inevitable victory in upcoming polls, considering the voting strength of the council area which could’ve fallen into the wrong hands in the wrong political party if the issues were not so ratified.
The newly elected chairman of Ihiala LGA Chief Nath Ikwuka in his acceptance speech expressed gratitude to God and appreciation to everyone that contributed to the successful conclusion of the congresses.
He declared the council area as a confirmed PDP block, citing the successful conduct of the congresses as a major breakthrough and an edge over other political parties who’s political interest and expectations have become a pipedream as it stands.
The LGA Chairman was vocal in stating that Ihiala will stop at nothing to mobilizing massively, canvassing with optimism and voting gallantly for the Peoples Democratic Party in subsequent elections, adding that all they were concerned about at the moment is victory for PDP at the ballot.
Hon Nwobu and Dr Ndukwe in their separate closing remarks commended the participants for their show of commitment, maturity and brotherhood, noting that the need for love, peace and unity in every endeavour cannot be overemphasized.
Additionally, they advised members who might have contrary views about the excercise to channel such grievances and complaints to the appeal panel that will be sitting on Tuesday 18/05/2021 at the State Secretariat Awka by 10:00am.
