A former World Wrestling Champion Golden Warrior, Morris Atula, says he is running for post of President of Nigeria Wrestling Federation, NWF, in order to revive the sport and return Nigeria to the wrestling map of the world.

Atula made this known in an interview with reporters in Awka on Saturday while speaking on his ongoing nationwide consultation tour with stakeholders.

9News Nigeria, reports that Atula, who is based in the United Kingdom, is currently in Nigeria to brainstorm on the way forward for wrestling ahead of NWF election.

Atulu, who is the most decorated Nigerian International Wrestler said his consultation started in Abuja with the management of the National Sports Commission and would move to the six geopolitical zones and Lagos.

“I am in Nigeria on a mission to revive wrestling, promote wrestling and restore wrestling to its pride of place as the best sports in Nigeria.

“I am currently on a tour of the country where I am holding strategic engagements with stakeholders in the sports and wrestling profession in particular.

He expressed that the tour and engagement with stakeholders would give him the opportunity to know the current situation and specific challenges wrestling was facing across the states, noting that as a veteran wrestler, coach and administrator, he had all it took to make wrestling the major medal winner for Nigeria and an empowerment tool for youths.

“I have met with the management of the National Sports Commission and the discussion was fruitful.

“I told them how the NW, under me as President, will key into the development strategies of the NSC to achieve the objectives of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he said.
