Families of 13 abducted travelers are demanding urgent security measures along the Biu-Maiduguri road.
The 13 passengers were kidnapped on April 15, 2026, by suspected insurgents.
Their two golf station wagon vehicles were stopped along the Biu-Buratai-Kamuya road.
The families addressed the press at the NUJ office in Maiduguri on Saturday, where they lamented that attacks and abductions along the route are becoming “frighteningly common.”
Yet the road remains the only link to Maiduguri for communities in Biu, Hawul, Kwaya Kusar, Bayo and Shani.
The families called for increased security presence and better surveillance on the Biu-Damaturu-Maiduguri road.
They also asked for rehabilitation of the Borno segment of the Biu-Damaturu road.
They said bad roads increase vulnerability for commuters.
The families further urged commercial transport operators to keep proper passenger manifests.
They said this will aid accountability and emergency response.
They also appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State and security agencies to act fast.
The families said the rescue of 360 people from Ngoshe shows that rescue is possible for their family members.
They stressed that no Nigerian deserves to live with this kind of uncertainty.
Mr. Hassan Yati signed the statement on behalf of the families.
