Families of 13 travelers abducted 60 days ago have made a public appeal in Maiduguri.
The travelers left Biu for Maiduguri on April 15, this year when their vehicles were ambushed by suspected ISWAP/Boko Haram insurgents along the Biu-Buratai-Kamuya road.
Speaking on behalf of the families during a press conference at NUJ office, Maiduguri, Mr. Hassan Yati said “today marks 60 painful days of unanswered questions and sleepless nights.”
He noted that among the abducted is a mother carrying her seven-month-old baby and young graduates going to process NYSC deployment.
A husband and his wife from Hawul and their two brothers were also among the abducted persons.
The families said the road remains the only link to Maiduguri for many communities due to insecurity on other roads.
They mentioned Biu, Hawul, Kwaya Kusar, Bayo and Shani as affected areas.
Mr. Yati asked how a six-year-old girl, Deborah Michael, can be told her parents are still missing.
He also spoke about Baba Mustapha, whose two sons vanished after hiding in a vehicle boot.
The families said they have not lost hope despite the pain.
They praised efforts that led to the rescue of 360 people from Ngoshe and 11 fisher-women from Askira Uba, while appealing to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Babagana Umara Zulum not to forget them.
They also called on the National Security Adviser and other leaders to help bring their loved ones home.
