The Borno State command of Nigerian Police Force has arrested 20 suspects in connection with theft and looting of private and government properties during the floods disaster in Maiduguri.
The suspects were paraded before journalists at the command headquarters in Maiduguri on Friday.
ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, the command’s spokesman, who paraded the suspects, stated that the criminals exploited the chaos caused by the disaster to carry out their illegal activities.
The suspects include a suspect who impersonates himself as an aid worker for flood victims.
The recovery includes six bags of 25kg rice, six mats, six blankets, two cartons of macaroni and three mosquito nets.
Others are the arrest of a suspect who stole office items in a submerged shop, including two HP desktop computers, two scanners, one printer, One AC unserviceable stabilizer, one Computer mouse and a charger, among others.
‘The Command is committed to nipping criminal activities in the bud, ensuring the safety and security of the public, especially during this challenging time.
‘Criminals are warn to desist from their nefarious activities or face the full wrath of the law.
‘Members of the public are advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police,’ ASP Daso added.
