The Borno State Great Green Wall Agency (BOAGGW) has planted 500 tree seedlings in the newly commissioned 500 housing estate in Konduga Local Government Area of the state.
This was following the directives of the state governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum to the agency.
This is also after the settlement of 589 households in the estate.
Ambassador Usman Aliyu, the Director-General of BOAGGW, acting on the Governor’s directive, said the planting of the tree is after just 24 hours after the directives.
He explained that the initiative will mitigate climate change and desertification in the state.
”The Governor ordered us to populate the estate with trees, and within 24 hours, we responded and acted on the order as part of his efforts to mitigate climate change and desertification,” he stated.
The DG also charged the beneficiaries to protect and nurture the trees until they reach maturity, assuring them of the agency’s regular monitoring visits to the estate.
Established earlier this year by Governor Zulum, BOAGGW has been actively working to combat climate change and desertification in Borno State.
The agency has been providing support to communities, particularly those affected by recent devastating floods, to address climate-related issues and extreme weather conditions.
