Former Abia State Governor and the Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has reassured Nigerians and reiterated that he is still in the race for the 2023 Presidential election.
In a short video of a press interview made available to 9News Nigeria, Senator Kalu said that the President, Buhari he knows can never tell anyone that he (Buhari) would make him the president of Nigeria.
He said “I know his antecedents, Buhari can never tell anyone, I will make you president. Like when they were doing chairmen, people came out. I know people who told me they just left Buhari now, I said No, that’s not the man’s style. His style is not to say I will make you, go back to your people and consult widely.”
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu also said that he has never officially told President Buhari that he wants to run for the president since the presidency has not been zoned to the South East of Nigeria.
He said: “I have never told the president, Buhari that I want to run for president. I didn’t tell him.”
“But the presidency has not been zoned to the South-East.”
While a reporter asked him if, in a nutshell, he is still in the race, Senator Kalu responded in earnest that he is in the race if it is zoned to the South-East.
He said: “I’m in the race if it’s zoned to South-East. I’m in the race if it is zoned to the South East. I’m interested, and for equity and justice, it’s South-East.”
