Nollywood actress Mercy Jihnson-Okojie has opened up about her health struggles and her sudden weight loss.
Recall that the movie star recently sparked concerns with her drastic weight loss, which has been subject of intense discussion across social media platforms.
Addressing the rumours in a media video, the 40-year-old star thanked fans for their messages and prayers, insisting that she is in good health.
“Thank you so much to all of you who have been calling sending messages and prayers”, she said.
“But I do not have cancer. I had a cancer scare, which led to a swelling on my neck and issues with my thyroid. My doctor recommended removal, and I am now perfectly okay”
Mercy explains that a clip from her cooking show, Mercy’s Menu, had been taken off context. “They cut the clip”, she noted.
“I said I had a scare – It means I have this something swelling on my neck, and my doctor felt it was something serious. I had problems with my thyroid. I’m perfectly okay”.
In a separate discussion with veteran actress Joke Silva, Mercy revealed the extent of her journey: “I had a cancer scare, and I had my thyroid removed.
“It was quite a journey for us, especially as my youngest was six months old at the time. The medical team explain that I would require a lifelong medication and warned me about potential side effects”.
She reflected and adjusting to her new normal: “We kept saying this, ‘This is a new us, let’s get the surgery done. Now, I’m reconciling with my weight loss and the change to my life. I’ve accepted that this is where we are, and I’m learning to thrive in the new comfort zone”.
Mercy Johnson concluded by urging the public to “go back and watch the clip” in full and avoiding spreading misinformation.
“I am fine. I do not have cancer, In Jesus Name”, she affirmed before signing off with gratitude for her supporters’ concern.
