Mrs Nnenna Esther Adeleke (nee Akpara), grandmother of Afrobeats superstar Davido, holds a unique place in Nigeria’s political history as the only known woman to have given birth to two elected state governors.
She was the mother of late Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke, the first elected civilian governor of Osun State, and Governor Ademola Adeleke, the current governor of the state.
Mrs. Adeleke was also the mother of billionaire business man Dr. Adedeji Adeleke, founder of Adeleke University and father of Africa’s biggest music star Davido, making her the matriarch of one of Nigeria’s most influential families spanning politics, business, education and entertainment.
Originally from Akwete Ndoki in Ukwa East Local Government Area of Abia State, Mrs. Adeleke married the the late Senator Ayoola Adeleke of Ede, Osun State, in the union that bridge Nigeria’s eastern and western regions.
Her family home in Akwete, popularly known as “The Adeleke House”, remains notable landmark in the community.
The Adeleke family continues to maintain strong ties with Akwete, offering scholarships to indigene to study at Adeleke University and providing community support, especially during festive periods.
Her legacy remains woven into the Adeleke family’s lineage and influence across both Yoruba and Igbo communities.
