President Muhammadu Buhari, has written to the National Assembly on his readiness to resume duty, from his return from London.
The President in the letter said he has resumed duty from his medical vacation in the United Kingdom and has now assumed his role as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria with effect from Monday (Today.)
Buhari had left for London on May 7, 2017, and handed the reins of government to the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, who functioned as the Acting President.
He had on Sunday returned to the country after spending over 100 days in London treating an undisclosed illness.
A statement sent to newsmen by Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, said the president’s letter was in line with constitutional provision of the country.
The letter reads in part: “In compliance with Section 145 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), I write to intimate that I have resumed my functions as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria with effect from Monday, 21st August, 2017, after my medical follow-up in the United Kingdom.”
