AWKA (9News Nigeria) – Former Central Bank Governor, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo has escaped an assassination attempt after unknown gunmen stormed his hometown, Isuofia and opened fire killing attached policemen on the spot.
Soludo who is the Anambra State 2021 Governorship election aspirant under the All Progressive Grand Alliance party was having a meeting with some members of his hometown when the unknown gunmen stormed the venue and started shooting sporadically.
While Soludo was saved from the assassination attempt, 9News Nigeria Awka correspondent gathered that three mobile policemen attached to him were gunned down as they tried to dislodge the assassins. It was revealed that the gunmen succeeded in abducting a police commissioner before they escaped.
As of the time of this report, the whereabouts of the abducted police officer has not been known, as an investigation into the unfortunate incident has been opened up by the state’s police command.
9News Nigeria learnt that the APGA Governorship candidate, Charles Soludo has been whisked away to an unknown destination where is safe and recovering from the shock of the incident.
Recall that the National Electoral Commission has scheduled Anambra Governorship Election to hold on November 6th 2021.
In recent times, there have been sporadic cases of unknown gunmen attacks that led to the shooting and killing of innocents citizens, police and other security agents in Anambra state, South-East Nigeria and other places in the country.
