Martin Uguru, the Permanent Secretary, Office of the Head of Service, has been suspended indefinitely by Ebonyi Governor David Umahi for extortion of civil servants, 9news Nigeria learnt.
The suspension, which took effect on April 1, 2022, was announced by the Principal Secretary to the Governor, Emmanuel Obasi, in a statement issued in Abakaliki on Friday.
Mr. Obasi stated that Mr. Umahi condemned the collection of kickbacks from newly promoted civil servants, in which the permanent secretary was found to be complicit.
“The money demanded by civil servants in charge of the process was claimed to be for the typing and collection of the document containing details of the promotion.”
“The governor directed the Secretary to the State Government to issue the permanent secretary a letter of indefinite suspension for his complicity in the scam.”
