After weeks of fluctuating power condition in Nigeria, the Nation on 15th March witnessed a nationwide blackout. Electricity Generation Companies (GenCos), announced on their Twitter handle and website that the nation’s power grid has witnessed a collapse.
While the Nation’s number one citizen, President Muhammadu Buhari remains in London on the health-related trip and his first Lady, Aisha in Dubai, Nigeria has been left to wallow in total darkness. The Association of Power Generation Companies, APGC, had on Sunday, blamed poor management of the grid by the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, as one of the factors responsible for low power generation in the country.
Meanwhile in the business of trading blames, Power Generation Companies (Gencos) under the Association of Power Generation Companies (APGC) yesterday made a damning claim that the power supply situation in the country was worsening because they were owed over N1.6 trillion since 2013. To compound the woe of the people, this catastrophe had come at a time when the nation was battling serious petrol scarcity with its price sitting at an all-time high.
It should be noted that the unreliable power sector of the nation was mercilessly explored by the sitting president, Muhammadu Buhari who rode to power with the promise of fixing the power sector.
