Cameroonian security authorities have arrested a 23-year-old man, identified as Moussa Ngoudja, after he was allegedly caught transporting a large quantity of 7.62mm ammunition near the Nigeria-Cameroon border.

Ngouja, a Cameroonian national from Sueram in Fotokol, was arrested around 6:30 a.m. on August 9 by members of Vigilance Committee in Dougoumsilo Silo village.

According to security sources, he was intercepted while riding a Boxer motorcycle and was found carrying three containers loaded with several rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.

Preliminary investigations indicate that he collected the ammunition from Mada in Makary and was taking it to Mdego Village in Fotokol, both in Cameroon.

He is currently being held at the Alifa Gendarmerie Brigade, as authorities investigate the source of the ammunition and whether others are connected to the movement.

The arrest has raised fresh concerns over the concerns over the illegal movement of ammunition through communities along the Cameroon-Nigeria border, particularly around the Gamboru axis in Borno State.
