Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has vowed to remain in the race for the 2027 presidential election despite his previous electoral defeats.
Atiku made the declaration during an interview with Jaji TV Hausa, insisting that he remains physically fit, energetic and ready for another presidential contest.
The former Vice President compared his political journey to that of former United States President Abraham Lincoln, who suffered several electoral defeats before eventually winning the presidency.
Atiku recalled that he contested the governorship election in Adamawa State four times without success, with military administrations repeatedly cancelling the electoral processes.
He said his fifth attempt eventually succeeded, paving the way for his emergence as governor and later Vice President of Nigeria.
According to him, repeated electoral setbacks should not be seen as a reason to abandon political ambitions.
“I am fit, healthy and full of energy, nothing can stop me,” Atiku declared.
He urged those highlighting his previous defeats to study Lincoln’s political history and consider how the former US president overcame several electoral losses before reaching the White House.
Atiku’s comments come amid growing political activities ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with major political figures intensifying preparations for the contest.
