Following the recent post made by an Imo state radio broadcaster, Chief Chinomso Uba, on his Facebook page criticizing the alleged recent warning notice by the management of Federal Polytechnic Nekede to stop students who have not paid their school fees before the upcoming examination to vacate the school, Federal Polytechnic Nekede through their concerned citizens Alumni has refuted such story and warned against such propaganda stating that the school has the right to ask her students to pay their school fees as at when do.

The original copy of the press statement made available to 9News Nigeria reads as thus:

CONCERNED ALUMNI OF FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC NEKEDE, OWERRI

PRESS STATEMENT DATE: 6TH AUGUST, 2022.

INTERROGATING NOMSONKWA’S HABITUAL RANT ON FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC NEKEDE

We roundly condemn the habitual rant of one Mr. Chinomso Theodore Uba (Nomsonkwa), who finds a pastime, in peddling false information against the most performing Management of the Federal Polytechnic Nekede and its hardworking Rector, Engr. Dr. Michael Arimanwa FNSE.

We place it on notice that Nomsonkwa is a serial blackmailer, merchant of falsehood and failed broadcaster. He is a typical character in Psychoanalysis who is driven by epicurean and partisan interests to lie against himself in order to gain cheap popularity.

In his latest trade of falsehood, Nomsokwa in a Facebook post last Friday, criticized the management of the polytechnic for “Suspending the exams and asking students to go get their school fees” describing it as “wickedness and heartless” (sic).

Further in his diatribe, the failed broadcaster stated: “Most of these students are training themselves…”May we inform the reading public that these statements coming from the blackmailing Nonsonkwa are a piece of falsehood intended to mislead. He even attached a memo from the school but failed to inform the public aright, only choosing the part that suits his evil motive. We find it pertinent, without intending to dignify Imo number one failed broadcaster that, the Management of the Federal Polytechnic Nekede had on 4th August, 2022, produced a memo suspending the first semester examination of HND I students for a period of one week, the sole purpose of which was to enable them complete their registration so that their names would be sent to JAMB and NYSC for “further necessary action.” The implication of this is that the polytechnic was only complying with the directives of these national bodies as a way of checking infiltration of fake candidates mobilized for national youth service programme by some institutions.

Obviously, the polytechnic is pressed for time hence the suspension of the exams to enable them beat the deadline already set by JAMB and NYSC.What then is the take or grouse of the garrulous, failed broadcaster, Nomsonkwa? Is he encouraging students not to pay school fees or asking them not to register to have their names sent to JAMB and NYSC? Why is he playing on emotions like a small mind in a bid to remind the public how some students are fending for themselves? Isn’t the aim of every student to register and pay school fees? When has education become free of charge? Now, is the Management not being too lenient to allow students tarry for over three months in school without paying school fees and getting registered?Besides the HND I students whose names are required by JAMB and NYSC, students in other prgrammes, namely: ND I, ND II and HND II, are writing their exams as scheduled, debtor-students inclusive.

We commend the proactive Rector and his Management in the first place for allowing students who have not paid their fees to write the examination. How many schools still do so under the excruciating circumstances of printing questions papers and answer scripts? The implication of this is that the Rector and Management of the institution have human face even beyond bounds.

The serial blackmailer, Nomsonkwa, also attached the textbook schedule of the polytechnic with the belief that he would blackmail the school and gain cheap popularity. But it backfired as many respondents on the platform related how the maximum textbook cover price of N1300 paid in Nekede is far less than the amount they pay in their various institutions.

Let it be noted that in spite of the rising cost of production and its attendant pressure on the management, the Management has taken a stand against further increasing the cover price of textbooks, citing the economy. The Rector even stated in one of the meetings with stakeholders that the polytechnic was ready to undertake the printing of all the books while paying lecturers royalties to ensure that students do not bear the brunt of the skyrocketing production cost of textbooks. God bless the Rector!

We, therefore, warn Nomsonkwa to steer clear of the Rector and Management of the Federal Polytechnic Nekede who have been winning laurels for the institution. Nomsonkwa is a serial blackmailer who makes a living from negative media – a classic case of ndi ori na crisis. This was the same unethical practice that made NBC throw him out of Ozisa FM into an oblivion of disrepute. Having failed as an untrained and untamed broadcaster, who knows Nomsokwa’s new stock-in-trade? Would it be far from blackmailing others for petty cash from unseen paymasters? His kinds are well known for epicurean gluttony which in the end put them in the dustbin of history where they rightly belong.

May we seize this opportunity to support our hardworking, smart Rector for his sincerity of purpose and tenacity in launching a massive development in the institution, making it the number one polytechnic in Nigeria. More than thrice, the smart Rector had won the best Rector award in the country given by reputable national bodies. On many occasions, the polytechnic under him shook the world with technological inventions of electric vehicle and solar-powered, automated hand-washing machines, among others.

As the first alumnus to become Rector of the institution, it may not be far-reaching to state that Engr. Dr. Michael Chidiebere Arimanwa FNSE has all the leadership credentials to place the Federal Polytechnic Nekede to a height it so deserves.Under the Rector, the Polytechnic set up a foundation to cater for the school fees of the less-privileged students. Through the Chaplaincies in the institution, the Management had variously disbursed funds to pay the fees of the indigent among them.

Only last week, a group, Fratelo Fundation, was in the polytechnic on a curtsey visit to the Rector where its director, Mr. Bertram Uzodinma, doled out half a million to offset the fees of select indigent students. It is commendable that on the spur of the moment, the Rector directed the bursar to ensure that the funds are disbursed among the chaplaincies who should be directed to fish out indigent students among them for the scholarship benefit.

In the history of the polytechnic, no Rector has shown as much concern to the plight of lowly students like Engr. Dr. Michael Chidebere Arimanwa. God bless the Rector!
