Six armed suspects were arrested in Borno State by the state’s command of the Nigerian Police Force.
The suspects, who according to the police were specialized in kidnapping, armed robbery and extortion across the state, also collect taxes from communities to spare them from their criminal activities and ensure they live in peace.
The spokesman of the command, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, in a press statement issued Saturday, said the arrest was made following a credible tip-off that was received by the command Crack Squad, who coordinated a covert operation in Chingowa Village Konduga LGA and arrested the suspects.
“Investigation further revealed that the syndicate are responsible for armed robbery and kidnapping in Magumeri and Konduga LGAs, as well as extorting money from villages, purportedly as a tax to spare them from their criminal operation,” he explained.
The suspects were arrested in possession of one pump action gun, one life cartridge, and N2,637,000 cash.
The release further noted that the suspects have confessed to the crime and will be charged in court after a discreet investigation.
Emphasizing on its resolute to ensure safety of people and their properties in the state, the command said, ”the Commissioner of Police, CP ML Yusufu, reaffirms the Command’s dedication to maintaining public safety and security within the state environs.”
