The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Apapa Area Port Command, generated a total revenue of ₦ 2.93 trillion in 2025, recording a significant increase of ₦573.29 billion over the ₦ 2.36 trillion collected in 2024.

The achievement represents a 24.32 per cent growth year-on-year and further cements the Apapa Command’s position as the nation’s leading revenue-generating port.

The Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Emmanuel Oshoba, attributed the strong performance to effective leadership, disciplined personnel and the strategic deployment of technology under the guidance of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.

Oshoba also commended compliant stakeholders, noting that their adherence to lawful trade practices contributed significantly to the revenue growth.

“A major contributor to the success was the deployment of the Unified Customs Management System, also known as B’Odogwu, which enhanced transparency, efficiency and accountability in cargo clearance processes,” he said.

According to him, regular performance reviews and timely revenue recovery measures further boosted collections during the year.

In the area of trade facilitation, Oshoba said the Command intensified stakeholder sensitisation following the rollout of the Authorised Economic Operator Programme.

He added that the One-Stop Shop initiative was expanded to ensure faster processing and prompt release of compliant cargoes.

“Efforts are also at an advanced stage to deploy the FS6000 cargo scanning system, a non-intrusive technology capable of scanning up to 200 containers per hour,” he noted.

Meanwhile, the Comptroller disclosed that the Command recorded notable enforcement successes in 2025, intercepting 53 containers laden with illicit drugs and other prohibited items.

The seizures included cocaine, Canadian Loud, tramadol and expired pharmaceutical products, with a combined Duty Paid Value of ₦12.63bn.

“Some of the interceptions were handed over to relevant agencies such as the NDLEA and NAFDAC for further investigation and possible prosecution,” Oshoba said.

Looking ahead, the Controller expressed optimism that the Command would record even higher revenue figures in 2026.

He said this would be driven by deeper implementation of B’Odogwu, the AEO Programme and the One-Stop Shop initiative, stronger intelligence-led enforcement and expanded collaboration with sister agencies.

Comptroller Oshoba further assured stakeholders of enhanced engagement with terminal operators, shipping companies, licensed customs agents, freight forwarders, haulage operators and the media.

He said the move was aimed at promoting transparency, compliance and seamless trade operations at Nigeria’s busiest port.
