Imo State Governor, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodinma has called on traditional rulers in Imo State to partner with the state Government in ensuring a peaceful and secure society for the people.
His Excellency the Governor , who spoke through his Deputy, Prof Placid Njoku at the security stakeholders meeting in Owerri today has called for an embracing approach wherein all stakeholders play their critical roles to ensure peace and security.
Speaking with 9News Nigeria in Owerri, Dgov. Njoku has maintained that peace can only be achievable if everyone did what he should do rightly at the right time.
He however stated that the same paradigms exists for security and every other social necessity to Improve the state.
The Governor had earlier urged the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, the Nigerian Labour Congress,NLC, youth bodies in the state and the trade organisations to look up and play their roles in ensuring peace and security in Imo State.
Dgov Njoku also pointed out that every individual, groups and the government have respective roles to ensure a peaceful and secure Imo State.
While pointing out that disgruntled elements and criminals are neither primarily imported into our communities nor are they aliens who steal and disappear, stressed that they live and move around us in our various communities and are thus known to the people which makes it possible and Paramount for traditional institutions and other organizations to be in positions to notify government for effective actions.
It is good we know this fact that the Imo Governor has therefore threatened to dethrone monarchs who will compromise the peace and security in their respective communities.
Though such move may sound harsh to the traditional rulers but as the chief security officers of the rural communities, monarchs have to stand up and say no to any group of persons formenting threat or INSECURITY to the community.
The caretaker president generals and their excos are Government representatives to carry out Immediate actions to curb crime at the community level.
The meeting had in attendance the new Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 9, Umuahia, Ekim Okon and other security personel in the state.
