Football, a well known contact sport originated in Britain, which involves kicking a ball with the sole aim of scoring a goal was banned in 1314 by King Edward II.
The monarch prohibited the sport on the grounds that it caused too much noise and could lead to social division.
According to King Edward II, it affected England’s defense, especially in the face of a war system invention involving archery, the Welsh longbowman.
Subsequent monarchs between 1314 and 1667 banned the beautiful game.

The sport was first introduced to Nigeria by the British at the start of the 20th century.
