A socio-political group in Akwa Ibom, Ibom Patriots has urged the people of the state not to follow any political aspirants with a drum of violence, intimidation, insult on opponents and prevention of opponents from his or her area of strong hold from the ongoing electioneering consultation in the state.
Addressing the press conference in Uyo, the State Capital, the Chancellor of the group, Obong Bassey Inuaeyen explained that the “history of politically motivated violence and assassinations is a closed chapter that our state must not, cannot and should not reopen”. He appealed for peace and charged the youths to shun violence in order to guarantee employment opportunities.
“When that politician asks you to cause mayhem and attack your fellow citizens, you should ask him if he too will bring his sons and daughters to do likewise. Any candidate who markets violence as a way of gaining electoral victory will govern with violence”, he said.
” On the issue of Governor 2023, Ibom Patriots, that consists of the best of the best of Akwa Ibom, had preferences for other aspirants, but in the interest of Akwa Ibom; in the interest of peace and harmony, we put aside emotions and individual interest to unanimously endorse Pastor Umo Eno”. He added.
The Chancellor, Obong Bassey Inuaeyen explained that the group took their stand devoid of emotions, sentiment and existential decisions. And that with Pastor Umo Eno as Governor, the future of the youths, the state, and the developmental strides already experienced in the state through Governor Udom Emmanuel will continue, while the peace and safety enjoyed by the people of the state will not cease.
