An Edo State Special Court has sentenced one of four defendants convicted in a kidnapping case, Gift Raphael, to death by hanging or lethal injection.
In delivering the judgment, the court sentenced Raphael to seven years’ imprisonment on count one.
However, on counts two, four, six and eight, the court imposed the death penalty, ordering that Raphael be executed by hanging or through the administration of a lethal injection.
“You, Gift Raphael, are hereby sentenced to death by hanging or through the administration of a lethal injection. You shall be hanged by the neck until you are dead. May the Lord have mercy on you.”The court stated.
The sentence followed the court’s findings on the charges brought against Raphael and the other defendants in connection with the kidnapping case.
The ruling makes Raphael one of the defendants in the case to receive the maximum penalty under the applicable law.
