THE National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus, on Tuesday, alleged that the All Progressives Congress and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) plan to rig the Ekiti State governorship election coming up in July.
He made the accusation while playing host to the German Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr. Bernhard Schlagheck, who paid him a courtesy call at the party national secretariat in Abuja.
The party boss, therefore, urged the international community to prevail on the present administration to ensure free and fair election, saying: “July Ekiti State governorship election will be the first test for this administration. We know that the APC and INEC have perfected plans rig the election.”
He admonished that lack of free and fair elections had always been a major cause of the crisis in Africa, adding that “when citizens are deprived of their right to vote, that will generate a crisis that might be difficult to control.”
He added: “Nigeria is an important country in the continent of Africa. The best we can give to our people is an election that will be transparent, an election that will be credible, an election that all, both local and international will welcome.
“So, we urge the governing APC that the best they can give this country is to offer one man, one vote. We did that during the electoral campaign in 2015 but they are not assuring this, which means that there is a great fear in the land that the election is not going to be free and fair despite all the promises made by INEC.”
Secondus, however, informed his guests that the PDP has embarked on two major platforms to project the party ahead of 2019.
These he said included Generation Next and Rescue Mission.
According to him, while Generation Next is meant to mentor the youth, the Rescue Mission is aimed at salvaging Nigeria from APC’s misrule.
The opposition leader said rather than fulfil the promises it made to Nigerians, the APC government has plunged the nation into one crisis after another.
