Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, has responded to the report linking him to terrorism financing, firmly denying any involvement.
In a detailed statement,on Friday, Malami said that at no point in his career has he been under any form of scrutiny connected to terrorism.
“At no point in my public life during or after my tenure has, he been summoned, questioned, targeted or investigated by any security, regulatory or intelligence authority in Nigeria or abroad in relation to terrorism financing”, he stated.
“I state clearly and unequivocally that I have never at any time been accused, invited, interrogated, investigated or charged by any security, law enforcement, regulatory or intelligence agency within or outside Nigerian in respect of terrorism financing or any related offence.
The former minister said this clarification was overshadowed by misleading headline deliberately weaponized by political opponents to create false impression.
“Terrorism financing is a grave crime, any attempt to associate any individual with it must be grounded in verifiable facts, not conjecture or guilt by association”, Mallami said.
The former minister cautioned against sensational media reports capable of undermining public confidence in national security institutions, while reaffirming his commitment to the rule of law and said he reserved the right to seek legal redress over any publication that misinterprets his record or impugns his integrity.
Mallami served as Nigeria’s Attorney-General and Minister of Justice from 2015-2023 under President Muhammadu Buhari presidency.
