Former Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) following disagreements over the party’s governorship primary process ahead of the 2027 elections in Nasarawa State.
Adamu submitted his resignation letter on Monday to APC executives in Makama Ward, Lafia, stating that recent developments within the party made it difficult for him to continue pursuing his political ambitions under its platform.
The former police chief said the conduct of the governorship primary in the state undermined the principles of internal democracy, fairness, transparency and equal opportunity expected in a democratic political party.
According to him, the outcome of the primary process led to a loss of confidence in the party’s leadership and the manner in which political activities were being handled in Nasarawa State.
Adamu explained that after consultations with his supporters, political allies and family members, he decided to withdraw from the APC and pursue his governorship ambition on another political platform.
Before his resignation, Adamu had declared interest in the Nasarawa governorship race, with his campaign organisation insisting in April that he was fully prepared for the APC primary despite Governor Abdullahi Sule’s endorsement of Senator Ahmed Wadada for the contest.
