The Federal Government has announced a 30-day discount on petrol sold through NNPC stations nationwide.
Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, disclosed on Thursday while explaining the government’s latest intervention aimed at reducing the impact of petrol prices on Nigerians.
Oyedele said the discount would initially run for 30 days, stressing that the initiative should not be regarded as a return to fuel subsidy.
“We are offering a discount on petrol dispensed by NNPC, limited for the next 30 days in the first instance, with priority for public transporters nationwide.
“So, it’s not a subsidy. Government is just saying we sell to you at cost.” He said.
The minister said the measure was designed to provide temporary relief, particularly to public transport operators.
